DUTIES:
VAMC Manchester has openings for full time psychiatrists. Responsibilities include pyschiatric evaluation and treatment, consultation with multidisciplinary teams, initiation of mental health and substance abuse treatment as well as development of treatment plans in a variety of settings. Must be available for back-up consultation for Mental Health on-call providers. Primary site of assignment of duties within the Mental Health or Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Positions have a key role in a multi-disciplanry team with seasoned and dedicated MH clinicians within specialty Mental Health Clinics.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
a. Citizenship . Citizen of the United States.
b. Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
c. Licensure. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Incumbent must be board eligible/board certified in psychiatry.
d. Physical Requirements. Must pass a pre-employment physical.
e. English Language Proficiency. Physicians must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Applicant's education, length of practice and leadership experience will be considered by a Physician compensation panel in recommending salary of the applicant selected.

Preference to Veterans
The primary consideration in making appointments of physicians, dentists, podiatrists, optometrists, chiropractors, nurses, nurse anesthetists, PAs and EFDAs under 38 U.S.C., chapter 73 or 74, will be the professional needs of VHA. Consistent with this policy, however, veterans will be given preference when qualifications of candidates are approximately equal. This includes qualified disabled veterans and preference eligibles as defined in 5 U.S.C. 2108.
