The position is located in the Office of the Associate Director of Patie! nt Nursing Services of the Manchester VAMC. The incumbent will report directly to the Associate Director of Patient Nursing Services (ADPNS). She/He will be a member of the Nurse Executive senior management team. The incumbent is responsible for decision-making, policy determination and implementation strategies, as well as collaborating with others to ensure that policies and practices promote optimum patient care outcomes and efficiency and are enforced. She/He will service as the lead for Nurse Recruitment and Retention. She/He will be responsible for providing direct supervision for Nursing practice in Primary Care, Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's), Medical Specialty Clinics, Surgical Specialty Clinic, Same Day Surgery and Urgent Care, with the Nurse Managers as a direct report. The incumbent will be responsible for providing direction to all other Patient Services Staff in the absence of the ADPNS. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting the ADPNS wi! th staffing, disciplinary actions, budget development, equipme! nt management and HR issues. The incumbent will also provide direct oversight of the Clinical Nurse Practice Committee.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capabl! e of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorit! ies based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment.
