AGE OF PATEINTS TREATED: The Registered Professional Nurse cares for pediatric through geriatric patients in the Operating Room, Emergency Room, Medical/Surgical units, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, and Same Day Surgery unit, Birthing Center patients are neonates and women of childbearing age. POSITION PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Anything listed here requires a pre-employment physical by Employee Health to determine if the employee is capable of meeting the requirements. Work is of medium/heavy demand. Standing and walking is required most of the time when on duty.

Lifts patient with assistance. Frequent reaching may also be required when attending to patient needs. Ability to perform a variety of activities and adapt to variations in routine. Ablility to follow directions.

Verbal and written ability is req! uired to communicate with the patient and to understand instru! ctions received from nursing staff. Ability to react independently and quickly in an emergency situation. Must be able to assist patients in turning, transfers, and ambulation (average weight is 160 lbs.) Frequent lifting, stretching, and reaching. Acceptable visual acuity necessary for making patient assessments, reading gauges, thermometers,medication labels, ability to discern color, etc., and for recording in the patients chart.

With correction (glasses or contacts 20/30). Auditory senses intact (able to hear patient alarms, emergency bells, overhead pages,etc. Able to communicate well with patients, physicians, family members and coworkers. Good manual dexterity is required.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY Position Objective The Registered Professional Nurses is accountable to meet the complete nursing needs of a defined group of patients utilizing the nursing process and the medical plan of care in accordance with the New Hampshire Nurse Practice Act and t! he Patient Bill of Rights. Performance Expectation Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. Follows the seven medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Performs patient care using an integrated approach that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.

Ability to formulate an individual plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan for effectiveness. Communicates clinical information appropriately to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs. Collaborates with all ancillary departments. Coordinates and supervises patient care, as necessary.

Demonstrates an ability to organize and prioritize job function. Demonstrates critical thinking skills, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative sol! utions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Performs physical/psycho! social assessment to collect data: follows the written plan of care, standards, practice guidelines. Utilizes assessment data to identify patient care needs, to include patient education and discharge planning.

Recognizes and reports abnormal assessment data and incorporates findings into the plan of care: validates and revises expected outcomes based on assessment. Accurately and legibly documents all patient care activities, including but not limited to, wound assessment, patient care teaching, demonstrated progess toward goals, medication administration, nursing flow sheets and all assessment forms. Delegates tasks to the health care team members appropriately. Demonstrates unit specific competencies.
