Position Description
Senior Engineer responsible for conducting research projects relating to the development of new products an! d improvement of existing products. Provides engineering support to all departments within the business regarding electrosurgical issues.
Position Responsibilities
Independently conduct projects as assigned by the Director of Advanced Development with the ultimate goal of contributing to the development of a new product or improving an existing one. These research projects are typically related to the characterization of electrical and mechanical properties, and will include collecting, organizing, and summarizing for both verbal and written reporting of research data. Research requirements may also include other physical characteristics of products where methods, instrumentation or computerized data acquisition setup typical of a senior engineer’s knowledge base is required and includes the design and development of test methodology, fixturing, instrumentation or high power RF circuitry specific to the project.
Create models, part drawings and assemblies! utilizing 3-D CAD software such as SolidWorks or Pro-E. Profi! cient with PDM Works software or other file control system.
Exercise expertise in mechanical drawing formats per ANSI standards.
Provide updates to timelines utilizing Microsoft Project.
Plan and implement acute and/or chronic pre-clinical studies in support of assigned projects.
Attend clinical cases to observe surgeons performing surgery either with Medtronic Advanced Energy Devices or without.
Complete successful design of components and devices based on common manufacturing processes such as injection molding, electroplating, machining, and stamping.
Proactively anticipate issues and plan accordingly in order to complete projects within targeted objectives such as performance, time and budget.
Communicate in writing on a regular basis with all cross-functional team members in a timely and concise manner.
Basic Qualifications
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering i! s required. An advanced degree is highly desirable.
5+ years’ experience in medical device development, preferably in electro-surgery or a related field.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
Masters or PhD. in Engineering, Mechanical or equivalent, with 5+ years’ experience.
Familiar with FDA processes.
Experience with design and use of electrosurgical products and devices.
Skilled in working with surgeons and related personnel to develop a concept into a successful product. Familiar with quality control and regulatory processes throughout the company.
Computer literate. Skilled with business and design software such as ProE, Solidworks and 3D Modeling Software.
Experience in robotic design for surgery.
Capable of creating the initial design given a concept and implements the design process to bring the product to completion.
Knowledge in manufacturing and machining processes as they apply to the design process.

U! nderstanding of standard Product Development Processes.
Personable and works well with internal and external customers.
Presents a professional image.
Ability to function well under pressure and expend effort to meet schedules and deadlines.
Willingness and ability to assume increased responsibility.
